With more than 150 years of history, J&E Hall International is one of the world’s oldest and most respected names in industrial refrigeration. From nuclear plants and warships to warehouse storage facilities and large-scale air conditioning projects for hospitals and schools, J&E Hall delivers refrigeration and cooling solutions on a global scale.

Alongside its cutting-edge engineering, the company also invests heavily in people. With over 300 employees and its own dedicated training centre, J&E Hall recognised that modernising learning was key to supporting compliance, professional growth, and employee engagement.

That’s where Kallidus Learn came in.

The Challenge

When Training & Development Coordinator, Stephanie Pinner, joined J&E Hall, the existing learning platform was holding the business back.

There was no clear visibility of which courses had been completed, which were mandatory, or which applied to specific roles. Employees were confused, disengaged, and often faced with irrelevant training. HR was left to manually field constant queries like “What training do I still need to do?”

“It was exceedingly painful,” Stephanie explained. “Even as an administrator, I couldn’t see which courses I’d done and which I hadn’t. Nothing was joined up, and engagement across the business was really low.”

This lack of clarity not only created frustration, but also placed compliance at risk and consumed valuable HR resources.

The Solution

To fix the problem, J&E Hall transitioned to the full Kallidus Learn LMS.

The new system offered a fresh start:

  • Clear learning journeys tailored to departments and roles
  • Integration with the company’s Cascade HR system for smoother administration
  • Centralised access to compliance, health & safety, and professional development courses
  • The ability to book onto in-person sessions at the Dojo directly through the platform

Just as importantly, the rollout was carefully managed. Stephanie and her team delivered training sessions for managers and employees, helping them understand how the new system worked and the benefits it would bring.

“It wasn’t just a case of ‘here’s a new system, figure it out’,” she said. “We made sure everyone felt supported, and that really helped with adoption.”

The Outcomes

The impact was immediate – and lasting.

Compliance rates soared. Outstanding mandatory training dropped from double and even triple figures down to single digits. Employees now have complete clarity on what’s required of them and when, which has led to a 20% increase in annual completions for mandatory compliance courses compared to last year.

Engagement improved dramatically. With everything in one place, staff began logging in regularly, completing more than just their required courses, and even exploring optional content.

HR got its time back. The endless stream of queries disappeared. “All of that’s been taken away from us,” Stephanie said. “People now have a really clear understanding of where they are, what they need to do, and when they need to do it.”

Perhaps most importantly, the cultural shift has been significant. Employees are buying into the idea of continuous learning, and training is no longer seen as a burden. Instead, it’s becoming an accessible and valued part of working life at J&E Hall.

“The feedback is overwhelmingly positive,” said Stephanie. “And in a company that has decades of well-established processes, that’s a huge achievement. If people aren’t complaining, it means it’s working – and we’ve had nothing but good feedback.”

Looking Ahead

With compliance and engagement under control, J&E Hall is now exploring new ways to use Kallidus Learn, from building pathways for engineers to expanding the catalogue of optional courses.

For Stephanie, the system has proven itself as a long-term partner:

“It’s user-friendly, the support from Kallidus is fantastic, and the implementation was smooth. If you put the work in at the start, you get everything out of it that you want – and more.”
