National Gas plays a critical role in the UK energy sector, managing and maintaining the infrastructure that ensures gas is transported safely and efficiently to power stations, industry, and homes. With four distinct businesses under its umbrella, National Gas has a complex workforce with diverse needs.

Bekah Patrick, DEI Specialist, leads on diversity, equity, and inclusion, focussing on creating employee learning initiatives to help build a more equitable and inclusive culture. For Bekah, creating a training solution that truly reflected the organisation’s values and supported employees in meaningful ways was a top priority. When the opportunity came to work with Kallidus on a bespoke learning project, it was clear this partnership had the potential to create something transformative.

The Challenge

As an organization with thousands of employees across technical, operational, and corporate functions, National Gas needed more than just a standard eLearning course.

The challenge was twofold:

  • Relevance and authenticity: Any training had to resonate with employees from different backgrounds and roles, addressing sensitive topics in a way that felt real and engaging.
  • Driving inclusion: With a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion, National Gas wanted a solution that would go beyond box-ticking compliance and instead spark real conversations, especially around neurodiversity and how colleagues can support each other.

As Bekah explained, National Gas needed something that would “get to the crux” of what mattered, while still leaving space for creativity and innovation.

The Solution

Working closely with the Kallidus team, National Gas co-created a bespoke eLearning solution that brought these complex topics to life.

The collaborative process was central to the project’s success. By staying curious, open-minded, and iterative throughout, both teams were able to refine and enrich the training content, ensuring it struck the right balance between empathy, clarity, and impact.

One standout element was the neurodiversity learning scene, where a character questions whether to share their ADHD diagnosis in a professional setting. This moment resonated strongly with learners and became a highlight of the course, demonstrating the power of scenario-based storytelling to encourage reflection and discussion.

Bekah described the process as “amazing,” praising the creativity of the Kallidus team and their ability to listen, adapt, and push ideas forward:

“I’m constantly telling my colleagues and network to utilise Kallidus because the process has been so amazing. You’re a great business and I’m super happy to recommend you.”

The Result

The bespoke solution has had a tangible impact across National Gas. By tackling important topics like neurodiversity through authentic, relatable scenarios, the training has achieved high levels of engagement and sparked meaningful conversations among employees.

The project also reinforced National Gas’ commitment to creating an inclusive workplace where every individual feels valued and supported.

Beyond the course itself, the experience of working with Kallidus has built confidence within National Gas’ learning team to take bold, creative approaches to future learning initiatives.

As Bekah summed up:

“Remain curious and open, but know what you want at the crux, that’s how you get the best solution. And with Kallidus, that’s exactly what we achieved.”
